5 Ways to Add a Little More Garlic into Your Life – Yes Please!

By Kansas City Steak Company

Spring may be taking its sweet time getting here across the country, but that’s just one more reason to plan hard for that next 75-degree and sunny day.

And today, Garlic Day, is the perfect time to imagine a few ways to mix one of nature’s most unusual little vegetables into your next meal.

Vegetable?

That’s right.

Garlic is a bit of an enigma. It isn’t a spice or seasoning, and yet it’s probably one of the first things anyone – from chefs to the average joe – thinks of when trying to add a little flavor to any dish.

The fact that it even has its own day speaks to its popularity. There isn’t a Salt and Pepper day or even Barbecue Sauce Day (Note to readers: there should ABSOLUTELY be a Barbecue Sauce Day.), which is a testament to garlic’s culinary dominance.

To top it all off, garlic is also touted for its health benefits, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.  Essentially, it has the versality of the onion, pizazz of saffron, and health benefits of kale.

So here are a few ways to mix a little more garlic into your next culinary adventure. If history is any indicator, more garlic equals more joy and deliciousness.

  1. Garlic Infused Butter – We have talked about the gustatory glory of finishing butter before, so we won’t scare you off by stepping up on our soap box again. However, a tasty pad or dollop of butter centered on a properly cooked steak is always welcome. We sell a very tasty version of roasted garlic finishing butter here.

  1. Parmesan Garlic Potato Wedges – If you haven’t tried these, you’re missing out. The next time you’re throwing a few Steakburgers, hot dogs, or steaks on the grill, add these savory and starchy beauties as a side. There are plenty of variations, but you can find a baked version we like here.

  1. Garlic Infused Olive Oil or Vinegar – Having garlic infused olive oil or vinegar on hand is a great way to add garlic flavoring to any dish without having to go to the trouble of dicing the tiny garlic cloves. There are quite a few recipes online for creating your own infused oils and vinegars too, if you’re the make-from-scratch type…

  1. Garlic Hummus or Baba Ghanoush – Dips and spreads are one place where garlic really shines, especially while you wait for the steaks to come off the grill. There are plenty of sour cream-based dips, but if you want to go a little healthier, think about garlic hummus or baba ghanoush (eggplant based). Both are relatively healthy and go especially well with pita wedges.

  1. Roasted GarlicRoasted garlic is one of the few ways garlic can be enjoyed whole. But don’t let that keep you from adorning it on top of a beautiful Filet Mignon. Both ways are delish.

So celebrate National Garlic Day appropriately today, just don’t get too close to your loved ones. Your breath may bear witness to this lovely holiday.
